This 1873/1866 spring will work in rifles of any caliber, and in barrel lengths of 24" or shorter. Will not rust the way your stock magazine spring does. In barrel lengths shorter than 24 inch, the spring is inserted in magazine and cut 3 inches long outside of tube for proper tension.
