Ruger Vaquero, Blackhawk and Single Six center fire "Extended Firing Pin and Lightened Return Spring". We have used these in our action work for several years. They overcome head space issues and strikes the primer with more force due to the length and lighter return spring.
They also ride against the transfer bar and eliminate the shock on the bar since there is no gap between the firing pin and transfer bar when the hammer strikes. A slight modification to the top of transfer bar insures smooth function. Put a 45 degree angle at the top of the transfer bar. Below are pictures of a modified and unmodified transfer bar:
Installation Instructions:
Step 1. Take the revolver apart.
Step 2. Use a Sharpie and mark a cross on the recoil shield so it's easy to line up when reinstalling.
Step 3: Use a 1/16th long punch on the loading gate side to drive out the pin holding in the recoil shield. You don't need to drive it all the way out. Just far enough so the end of the pin is past the recoil shield.
Step 4. Use a 1/8th inch punch and drive out the firing pin and recoil shield. I mount the revolver in a padded vice to do this.
Step 5. Drop in the new firing pin and spring and line up the recoil shield looking down through the muzzle using the marks made by the Sharpie.
Step 6. Use a brass rod through the barrel and drive the recoil shield back in place.
Step 7. Use the same brass rod or a shorter brass punch to tap the retaining pin back in place.
My Installation Tools:
Hammer, 1/16" and 1/8" punch, Sharpie, 10" brass rod and short brass punch.
